WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. John Katko (R-NY), Ranking Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, released the following statement on the confirmation of Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of Homeland Security:
“I congratulate Alejandro Mayorkas on his confirmation as Secretary of Homeland Security. It is my hope that we can find common ground to address the key issues facing the Department of Homeland Security and build a productive partnership. Our homeland security, economic security, and way of life continue to be threatened in unprecedented ways by highly sophisticated adversaries.
“On the heels of one of the most dangerous cyber-attacks our nation has seen, I would urge Secretary Mayorkas to work with Congress, across party lines, to close the troubling gaps in our nation’s cybersecurity posture. I also urge Secretary Mayorkas not to enable the unwinding of productive border security policies from the past four years that may be politically expedient but ultimately undermine the rule of law. Securing and defending the homeland requires a collaborative approach, across political parties and branches of government, and there is a great deal of work to do. I look forward to working with Secretary Mayorkas to help the Department carry out its mission.”
